Communications Standards for Unmanned Aircraft Systems: The 3GPP Perspective and Research Drivers

چکیده

An unmanned aircraft system (UAS) consists of an aerial vehicle (UAV) and its controller, which use radios to communicate. While the remote controller (RC) is traditionally operated by a person who maintaining visual line sight with UAV it controls, trend moving toward long-range control autonomous operation. To enable this, reliable widely available wireless connectivity needed because only way remotely or take flight. This article surveys ongoing Third Generation Partnership Project standardization activities for enabling networked UASs. In particular, we present requirements, envisaged architecture, services be offered to/by UAVs RCs, will communicate one another, UAS traffic management (UTM), other users through cellular networks. Critical research directions relate security spectrum coexistence, among others. We identify major R&D platforms that drive communications networks applications.

Research with Collaborative Unmanned Aircraft Systems

We provide an overview of ongoing research which targets development of a principled framework for mixed-initiative interaction with unmanned aircraft systems (UAS). UASs are now becoming technologically mature enough to be integrated into civil society. Principled interaction between UASs and human resources is an essential component in their future uses in complex emergency services or blueli...

Considerations of Unmanned Aircraft Classification for Civil Airworthiness Standards

The use of unmanned aircraft in the National Airspace System (NAS) has been characterized as the next great step forward in the evolution of civil aviation. Although use of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) in military and public service operations is proliferating, civil use of UAS remains limited in the United States today. This report focuses on one particular regulatory challenge: classifying...

Unmanned aircraft systems as wingmen

This paper introduces a method to integrate Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UASs) into a highly functional manned/ unmanned team through the design and implementation of 3D distributed formation/flight control algorithms with the goal to act as wingmen for a manned aircraft. The proposed algorithms are designed to increase UAS autonomy, dynamically modify formations, utilize standard operating forma...

Choosing Replanning Strategies for Unmanned Aircraft Systems

Unmanned aircraft systems use a variety of techniques to plan collision-free flight paths given a map of obstacles and nofly zones. However, maps are not perfect and obstacles may change over time or be detected during flight, which may invalidate paths that the aircraft is already following. Thus, dynamic in-flight replanning is required. Numerous strategies can be used for replanning, where t...
